I was super excited to get this product. I have another m-edge cover and was thoroughly satisfied with the quality of that product. I purchased the New Yorker cover on impulse after seeing how attractive the design was.
My complaint is in the quality/ durability of the cover. My ideal cover offers protection for the Kindle. This cover is very soft and the artwork would be easily snagged. If I kept my Kindle at home, this product would be great. But since I throw it in my bag and go, this one won’t cut it. The New Yorker cover is not tough enough for everyday use.

I just received my ‘New Yorker’ Kindle 2 cover and purchased the oh so convenient illuminator light. While I really like the look of the cover, I’m so disappointed that the pocket for the illuminator light, isn’t as shown on other M-edge covers i.e., just off centre of the cover – so that the light can be stowed down the middle. Instead the light is attached on the outside edge of the cover.
I bought the illuminator because I didn’t want to have to remove the light and travel with it separately – I already have a clip on light.
Even though the light does fit snugly, I’ll have to remove it when I’m not using it, for obvious reasons and because it makes the whole Cool Kindle Cool Cover thing weird with this white appendage hanging on the edge.
So ‘The New Yorker’cool factor loses points for me with what I perceive to be a design flaw.

I am a collector (apparently, because I have quite a few… it was never planned) of Kindle 2 covers and have written reviews on all the ones I have that are sold through Amazon. This one, with the New Yorker cover, Sunday Afternoon in Central Park, was completely irresistible to me, and it just arrived today, after only about 5 days rather than the 10 days that were predicted by the company. It came wrapped in a very classy flannel sack (similar to the ones expensive purses come in) with the New Yorker logo on it. Nice touch, and handy too, especially if you’re particular about putting your Kindle in your backpack, briefcase, or purse.
The New Yorker cover art is fantastic… and accurate, right down to the July 15, 1991 price of $1.75 (the current price is $5.99!). The back is smooth brown leather, and the front, of course, is the NY cover on what feels like a silky but sturdy fabric. The inside is brown microfiber but looks and feels like the plushest suede. I have a feeling the microfiber will be much easier to keep clean. The structure of the cover feels substantial, and it folds back easily. The e-luminator light M-Edge e-Luminator2 Kindle Booklight (Fits 6″ Display, Latest Generation Kindle) from M-edge fits snugly and securely in the pocket beneath the Kindle, but it doesn’t fold down and disappear into the closed cover, as it does on the M-edge Platform cover, which is an advantage of the Platform M-Edge Platform Genuine Leather Kindle Jacket (Fits 6″ Display, Latest Generation Kindle), Marbled Red. But the light does actually fit much more securely in this NY cover slot than it does in my Platform cover, where it is wobbly and even falls out if I’m not careful. From reading the reviews, I gather that not everyone has a problem with a loose fitting light on the Platform, so apparently there is some variation from one cover’s light slot to the next.
The cover attachment is via a hinge mechanism that works well (although the newer Cole-Hann cover Cole Haan Hand-Woven Patent Leather Kindle Cover with Hinge, Ruby Sugar has a similar hinge, and my Kindle came out of that cover when I dropped it. No harm done, thank goodness). Unlike the Cole-Hann, this NY cover also has, in addition to the hinge, a top and a bottom elastic-and-leather strap to hold down the right side of the Kindle. (See the pictures on the product page.) On the C-H, the right side kind of flops around until you learn to compensate for it. The right-sided straps on the NY cover make the Kindle feel more secure, and the straps are not intrusive in any way.
Some readers might like to have some way to latch the cover closed, but there is none on this cover. It would probably interfere with the cover art, of course. I must admit that I rarely feel the need to fasten my cover closed. I’m pretty careful with my Kindle and don’t subject it to situations where a closure would be necessary, but I can understand why some people might want one. For example, when I dropped the C-H cover (did I say I was careful?), the Kindle probably wouldn’t have fallen out if there had been a secure closure device.
All in all, I LOVE this cover! It is clever, cool, colorful, fun, and it does the job it’s supposed to do quite well. If you’re like me, you’ll want this cover even if you already have a perfectly satisfactory one. Variety is the spice of life, eh?
